Too bad you have to go to Wal-Mart to get them. Cool idea, though.

This clip was featured prominently in last night’s episode of Mad Men. The male creative staff showed it as representative of a style that would be effective in marketing a diet cola to women. They thought she would represent the look/image that women would want to have, thus selling the product. The female staffer disagreed, thinking it would work better on men, as Ann Margaret looks/acts seductive in the clip. Women wouldn’t want that kind of a sell. I just think the singing is bad, but can see both sides of this argument.

Walmart, adding to the list of 1000’s of reasons to hate them, has started producing Thin Mint & Tagalong knockoffs, thus potentially cutting into a large percentage of the Girl Scouts’ operating budget. That is what I refer to subtly as a “dick move.”

So damn true, Craig. One of the best “Get off my lawn!” rants I have ever seen.

The Chicago Blackhawks have really gotten into the spirit when it comes to promoting their players for the NHL All Star Game ballot voting. These are some fun election-style attack ads they are running to get you to vote for them.
I still don’t like the Blackhawks, but props to their Marketing Team.

The super-terrifically funny FX comedy, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is returning for its fourth season on Sept. 18th. They’re doing a college campus game show tour as a marketing tactic to promote the upcoming season. There’s also an online component that you can register for and play. I like this kind of marketing, and love the show.

My favorite part of the whole thing is the trophy (pictured), which is a gold dumpster baby, made famous in the episode “The Gang Finds a Dumpster Baby,” which I suggest that you run and do not walk to watch this episode.
Thanks to TWoP for the heads up on this promotion.
